If you are not thinking about search engine optimization, otherwise known as SEO, when you are writing your blogs and other content, it could be a big mistake. You need to do everything that you can to utilize your website and blogs. Otherwise, you could be wasting your time because no one is going to see them.

Here are some tips to write good content for SEO.

Before you write anything, know your target audience

It is essential that you know who you are trying to reach. Make sure that you really know who your ideal audience is. You should know the basics like their sex, age, and even demographic. Think about the challenges that they face on a regular basis. What are they going to be searching online for?

This can really point you in the right direction when you sit down and work on your content. You need to make sure that everything that you write is geared for the people that you want to notice it! By doing so, your readers will click on your blogs and spend time on your website, showing the search engines that your website really is helpful!

Take your time and write longer pieces of content

While most people struggle to write three or four hundred words, the longer that your content is, the better off you will be. In fact, search engines prefer to send people to blogs that are longer.

At the minimum, you should strive for six hundred words, though if you can write more than a thousand words, it is even better. This also helps to keep readers on your website longer, showing the search engines that you have plenty of valuable information there.

Think about your headlines

This is what is going to bring people in so you need to make sure that they are powerful. They need to tell your readers what to expect when they open your blog, as well as give them a reason to click on it (instead of another website).

Headlines with numbers in them seem to catch the attention of readers because they really want to know what the top three (or five) reasons are. Descriptive words can really pull people in too!

Don't forget about the meta descriptions 

These are also included in the search engine results so you need to make sure that you fill it out with enough information to draw readers in.

Images are very important when it comes to search engine optimization so you don't want to forget about them. In fact, people are more likely to read blogs that have at least one or two images in. This doesn't mean that you should just use images to use them. Instead, you need to place images in your blogs that are going to help your readers understand it better.

Then, be careful where you get them. Many bloggers have gotten into legal trouble by using images that they shouldn't. You need to read the fine print before you "borrow" or "use" any images that you find online. There are many places where you can buy rights or even find free images to use.

Do your research about the keywords that you are thinking about using

When planning out your keywords, don't shy away from longer ones. More and more people are becoming more specific during their online searches and if you use longer keywords, you are more likely to get their attention.

However, you can't just use keywords to use them 

Though you should use these keywords throughout your blogs and other pieces of content, you can't overdo it. Instead, use a variation of your keywords throughout your piece and make sure that it sounds natural. If it is too hard to read, your readers will find something else that is much easier to follow.

The recommendation is to use your keyword in your title, the introduction, and in the headings. You may also want to use your keyword in the conclusion. By using the keyword in multiple forms, it won't seem like you are trying too hard.

Make sure that you use links 

Links are essential for SEO purposes. You should try to use at least one or two throughout every piece of content that you use, both internal ones (linked to your own blogs) and external ones (linked to other websites). You need to use relevant ones so your readers can do more research if they need to.

However, if you use too many, you may distract your readers. They may end up clicking on a link and forget to come back to the original piece that they were reading (your content)!

If you want to reach as many people as you possibly can, you need to think about search engine optimization with every blog post and piece of content that you write. You need to remember who you are writing for. The more that you know and understand your customers and ideal audience, the more likely it is that you will produce content that they want to read!

You also need to write longer pieces of content. Search engines are more likely to target websites with longer content, over short ones. Headlines and meta descriptions are also important. These show people what they should expect when they click on the link. These need to draw them in or they will click on a different link (and website).

One of the best pieces of advice that you need to remember deals with your keywords. You need to make sure that you are using appropriate keywords throughout your entire piece. However, you don't want to sound like you are just sticking them in to have them in your blog. It needs to sound as natural as possible or your readers will move on!
